CPNE condemns murder of senior reporter

Karachi, March 16, 2011 (PPI): Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors Registered (CPNE) President Khushnood Ali Khan and other office-bearers Wednesday strongly condemned the murder of senior reporter of Daily Ummat, Rana Abrar and termed it attack on press freedom.

In a statement, CPNE said work environment in Pakistan for journalists is going from bad to worse with every passing day. Pakistan has already been declared as the worst country of the world for journalists. Killing of journalists and violence on them has become a routine matter, but the government has yet to take notice of aggravating situation.

CPNE demanded of the government to provide protection to journalists. It asked the government to order impartial probe into the murder of Rana Abrar and give justice to the bereaved family.
