Flood Protection Walls Construction start in FR Kohat


Peshawar, March 15, 2011 (PPI): The government has started construction of three flood protection walls in Sheen Dhand area of Jawaki Tehsil of FR Kohat, to safeguard the local community and their lands from floods. It is expected that these protection walls will protect the people and their agricultural lands from floods and erosion.

According to FATA Secretariat that the last year floods had badly damaged the houses and lands in the area. The community members identified these protection walls in meetings held with Political Administration to protect the area from floods. Therefore, the Political administration ordered immediate work on the execution of these protection walls.

The government is constructing 460 feet long three flood protection walls in Malik Baseer Kalay and Malik Aziz Kalay in Sheen Dhand area of FR Kohat, to safeguard the people and their agriculture land from erosion. With construction of these protection walls 640 individuals and around 55 acre agricultural land would be protected from floods and erosion. It is expected that these walls will be completed in the next month.

The media persons on Tuesday visited the village and witnessed the ongoing construction work on flood protection walls. Later on the Assistant Political Agent Syed Gul Jamal while talking to the media persons has said that government had pledged to provide basic facilities to the communities and with construction of these flood protection walls land and houses would be protected from floods during rainy seasons, which will minimize sufferings of the local communities.
