Nationwide delegates arrive in Vientiane to attend 9th Congress
VIENTIANE,MARCH15.(KPL)- More than 400 delegates from 16 provinces arrived in Vientiane on 14 March to attend the 9th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party scheduled for March 17-21.
The delegates included 19 from Phongsaly, 16 from Luangnamtha, 34 from Houaphan, 25 from Oudomsay, 14 from Bokeo, 22 from Bolikhamsay, 17 from Sekong, 28 from Khamouane, 41 from Savannakhet, 27 from Vientiane, 25 from Sayaboury, 31 from Luangprabang, 30 from Xiengkhouang, 15 from Attapeu, 24 from Saravane, 40 from Champassak and five from Vientiane Capital.
The five-day sitting will consider and adopt the political report of the 8th Central Committee, which summarises the achievements made in implementing the resolution adopted at the 8th Congress and outlines the next five-year development roadmap.
The development roadmap will define directives to alleviate poverty by 2015.
The Party’s amended and supplemented statute will also be considered and adopted.
Also, the congress will adopt the democratic election of the 9th Central Committee for the term 2011-2016.
The committee is the supreme leadership organ of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
During the congress, delegates from different sectors and provinces will have the opportunity to present lessons learnt and best practices in implementing the 8th Congress resolution.
Held once every five years, the congress is the most significant event in the country’s political life. It provides the opportunity for all Lao people to contribute to the country’s development process.
All Lao multiethnic groups and strata have actively contributed to the drafting of documents to be presented to the 9th Congress, on the basis of cohesiveness and unity of the whole Party and people with a view to strengthening the solidarity of all Lao people and the Party.
This reflects the fact that the Party is the Party of the people and represents the rights and interests of all Lao people. Yesterday delegates of the congress visited several economic productive zones to observe the development process, which reflects the realisation of the 8th Congress resolution.
