Walk to mark World Water Day
VIENTIANE,MARCH 11.(KPL)- On Saturday, over 300 took part in a community walk to mark the World Water Day, 22 March, along the Lane Xang Avenue. The walk started at Patouxay (Victory Arch) and took a u-turn at Presidential Office before finishing at Patouxay.
The walk under slogan “Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge” was organized by the Water Resources and Environment Authority in cooperation with the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union. After walking the participants carried out cleaning activities along Hongseng channel at Donedeng village in Chanthaboury district to facilitate the water flow of the cannel.
“The celebration is to raise public awareness on developing a city to have greenness, cleanliness and beauty and promote environment protection and ensure live quality of human beings,” said Ms. Khempheng Pholsena, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and Head of the Water Resources and Environment Authority.
The walk is also to mark the 56th founding anniversary of the Lao People’s Revolution Party and 50th anniversary of the Public Security and welcome the 9th Congress of the Party as well as the general election to the National Assembly, according to Ms. Khempheng.
Deputy Prime Minister and President of the National Environment Committee, Mr. Asang Laoly, Vientiane Governor, Mr. Sombath Yialiheu, representatives of international organizations and Vientiane residents attended the event.
