Pakistan Premier stresses effective Pakistan- Iran PTA implementation

Islamabad, Aug 21 PPI: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday called for effective implementation of Preferential Trade Agreement PTA between Pakistan and Iran to increase bilateral annual trade to $1 billion.

Talking to MB Abbasi, Ambassador designate to Iran, he asked him to work for expanding list of items agreed for tariff concessions under PTA, particularlyincluding textiles, garments, surgical goods in agreed list of items.

Gilani told Ambassador designate to work for early materializing 1100MW electricity import from Iran to meet Pakistan's energy shortage and expeditious signing of gas sale and purchase agreement to operationalize Iran, Pakistan, India IPI multibillion gas pipeline project.

Pakistan recognized Iran's right to peaceful use of nuclear energy and hoped Tehran will be able to resolve its differences with West on nuclear issue within frameworkof NPT & IAEA, he stated.
