9th Party Congress scheduled this month

VIENTIANE,MAR 11.(KPL)- The Lao People’s Revolutionary Party is going to hold its 9th Congress from 18 to 21 March in Vientiane Capital.
Deputy Head of the Committee for External Relations, Deputy-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hiem Phommachanh, disclosed at a press conference held here last Friday that the 9th Party Congress would consider and adopt the political report of the 8th Central Committee, the Party’s Statute (amended and supplemented) and election of the 9th Central Committee (for the 2011-2016 period), which is the supreme leadership organ of the Lao PRP.
Mr. Hiem said that the LPRP congress was the most significant event in the country’s political life. All Lao multi-ethnic groups and strata have actively contributed to the drafting of documents to be presented to the 9th Party Congress, on the basis of cohesiveness and unity of the whole Party and people with a view to strengthening the unity of all Lao people and within the Party, enhancing leadership role and capacity of the Party, taking pro-active steps for the realisation of the renovation policy based on the Party’s principles, lifting the country off from the status of least developed countries by 2020 and creating prerequisites for the country to move towards socialism.
The Lao PRP has consistently embraced Marxist-Leninism as the basis of its ideology, upheld the country’s development orientation towards socialism, continued to determine economic development as a central duty, and social and human resource development as a major task, gradually built the Lao PDR a state of law, promoted democracy and social equality, as well as protected the sustainable environment.
The Lao PRP will pursue and implement consistently its foreign policy of peace, national independence, friendship and cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference into internal affairs of others, equality and reciprocal benefits, and contributing to the cause of peace, friendship and cooperation for development in the region and the world over.
