MALAYSIA AND KOREA FORGE CLOSER RELATIONS WITH SCHOLARSHIPS

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- South Korea has awarded scholarships worth RM8 million to 41 Malaysian students to pursue their studies in various fields in that country.

The scholarships will fund research programmes, master's degree and doctor's degree in area such as sports science, genetic engineering and businessadministration.

"The Korean government is willing to invest in such scholarships and exchange programmes to show our appreciation that we highly value our relations with Malaysia," South Korean ambassador to Malaysia Yang Bong Ryull said at thescholarship presentation here Wednesday.

Yang said that currently there were between 3,000 and 4,000 South Korean students studying in Malaysia with some of them sponsored by the Malaysiangovernment.

Among the "popular" courses taken by South Korea students were English,tourism, hotel management and business administration.
