23 officials train in natural disaster risk assessment
VIENTIANE,FEB 25.(KPL) - Twenty-three officials from eleven ministries completed training in the risk assessment and application to development planning last Friday.
A five-day training course was held in Vientiane under the co-chairmanship of Director General of the Social Welfare Department, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr. Prasith Detphommatheth and Resident Representative of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Laos Ms. Kyoko Yokosuka.
The training course was organised by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare under the aegis of the UNDP.
The course was part of the cooperation project between the Lao government and the UNDP aiming at presenting how to make the risk assessment, weak response to natural disasters and discussing on risk assessment for provinces, districts and localities.
It also touched on the association between natural disasters and components of risk assessment with national strategy for risk reduction of natural disasters.
It also provided knowledge and understanding on risk assessment process to trainees for modifying to development planning in their works.
The training was conducted by three experienced trainers from the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre in Thailand. Trainees came from the ministries of Labour and Social Welfare, Agriculture and Forestry, Education, Planning and Investment, Public Health, Public Works and Transport, Industry and Commerce, Information and Culture, National Defence, Energy and Mining and Public Security.
