Turkey's economy minister says opposition parties should present strong economy policies to come to power
ANKARA (A.A) - The Turkish economy minister said on Sunday that Turkey's opposition parties should present strong policies on economy if they wanted to come to power.
Attending a TV program broadcast by private Kanal 7, Turkish State Minister & Deputy Premier Ali Babacan commented on Turkish economy.
Regarding Saturday's G-20 meeting in the French capital of Paris, Babacan said a series of decisions on debts, budget deficit, current account deficit and reserves had been taken at yesterday's gathering.
"Various economic criteria of global scale were laid down at the meeting. This happens for the first time. The issues we have insisted on were also included in the final declaration," he said.
Upon a question on unemployment, Babacan noted that unemployment figures had been up in 2009 due to the global economic crisis.
The minister said Turkey had made a significant progress in terms of the speed of the decline in unemployment rate.
Criticizing Turkish opposition parties' projects on economy, Babacan said a political party that was eager to rule the country should feel the responsibility of all the macro-economic policies and economic reforms on its shoulders.
"Because, we did that. If Republican People's Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) truly believe that they could come to power, then they should present a strong economy policy and a program," he said.
Babacan also said the biggest project introduced so far was CHP's "family insurance" project, however, it had several calculation errors.
