IAEA director general ’s remarks on Iran are made under pressure: Iranian official

TEHRAN, Feb.16(MNA) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday that the remarks by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano about Iran’s nuclear program are made under political pressure.

“It is obvious that the statements that are ambiguous or two-edged are made under political pressure,” Ramin Mehmanparast stated at his weekly press briefing.

The remarks by Mehmanparast came following Amano’s interview with the Washington Post newspaper published on Monday in which he voiced concern over Iran’s nuclear program.

Amano said, “We ask them (Iran) to declare - we ask about their activities… We don’t know if there are other activities outside their declaration. We are not sure if they are hiding something.”

The IAEA director general also said, “Iran is somehow producing uranium enriched to 3.5% and 20%. They are producing it steadily, constantly.”

Mehmanparast stated, “Our peaceful nuclear activities are conducted within the framework of our rights, the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and under the supervision of the IAEA.”

According to the IAEA reports, there is no diversion in Iran’s nuclear activities, Mehmanparast asserted.
