Exhibition of rare Persian manuscripts underway at INLA

TEHRAN (MNA) - An exhibition of Persian manuscripts and rare books was opened at the Iran National Library and Archives (INLA) on Saturday evening showcasing a collection of rare editions and manuscripts of the Quran and other religious books.
Books on art and Iranology as well as copies printed from original manuscripts are also on display at the exhibit.

“Rare book is a term used quite often but there is no agreement on its concept and no standard to mark a book as rare; some consider its price, some regard its nostalgic content,” secretary of the exhibit Mahmud Esmaeili said at the opening ceremony.

The three-volume book “Script and Calligraphy” by Mohammad Vahid Musavi Jazayeri was unveiled as part of the exhibit where the author was honored during the opening ceremony.

Hafez expert Bahaeddin Khorramshahi was present at the ceremony and said that there has been much emphasis on the writing in the Holy Quran. Hafez has also referred to learning and calligraphy about 50 times.

Graphic designer Bahram Kalhornia said that different nations in history have been interested in the writing. Translator of the book, Hossein Jazayeri, also said that translating the book into English took as much time as the amount of time the author spent on writing it.

An exhibition of Kufic script is also open on the sidelines.
