Thasang Weavers’ group face imitation products

VIENTIANE,FEB 11.(KPL)- Textile weavers have complained they are facing the prevalence of imitation products, according to Mr. Somvang Souvannakoummane, Director of the Thasang Textile Weavers’ Group, Park Ngum district, Vientiane Capital.
Mr. Somvang said what the group was most worried about was the copying of tin sins- silk piece, which originally adorned the skirt bottoms of traditional Lao dresses-as it was cheaper than the real product. “The imitation tin sin is only 5,000 kip, but the real one is 25,000 kip.”
“Due to the prevalence of the imitation tin sin, the group has to sell their tin sin at 15,000 kip and they have to stop producing for a while. As a result, weavers, mostly women, have no income,” said Mr. Somvang.
“I would like relevant authorities to provide help to the group,” said Mr. Somvang.
The Thasang Textile Weavers’ Group was established eight years ago. Now, the group has 450 weaving looms.
