Thai prime minister speeds up national reform

BANGKOK, Jan 1 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva announced Saturday (Jan 1) to speed up national reform in four main areas including economic development, the fair management of resources, and better social welfare to ensure the secured life of Thai people.
Speaking through all radio and television stations, Abhisit insisted on the necessity of promoting fairness in economic development and resource management. He said social welfare would be expanded to ensure secured life for all groups of people.
To solve inequality, Abhisit said his government would take care of people from their birth on. All groups of the youths will receive quality education. Children in informal sectors and those with disabilities will be brought into the educational system of the state. About 14,000 small schools nationwide will be improved in terms of their management and the quality of their personnel.
The prime minister said that the government would implement special processes to offer welfare to workers in the informal economy so that the people would have access to funds, better work environment and lower costs of living. He will elaborate on the plan on January 9.
As for agricultural development, the government will overhaul land management. It will apply mechanisms at the national level for the overhaul and will guarantee public participation. The government will promote special economic zones for agriculture.
As for housing, the government will have houses built for over 50,000 low-income families in 500 groups of villages to ensure security in their life.
As for justice, public services, good governance and anti-corruption efforts, the government will promote the integration of work of all its agencies and supervise them closely.
As for political reform, the prime minister confirmed that his government would promote national reconciliation to restore peace in the nation. (TNA)
