Most Thai people satisfied with government performance

BANGKOK, Dec 29 (TNA) - A recent survey nationwide found that the Thai public are more satisfied with the Democrat Party-led government's performance this year.
A result of the Suan Dusit Poll, conducted by Rajabhat University Suan Dusit from December 10-27 by interviewing 6,546 people across the Kingdom on a random basis showed that out of its 1-10 rating, the Abhisit government obtained the overall score of 6.36, a rise of 0.35 points compared with the same period last year.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva gained 7.43 points, a 0.24 point increase from last year; while his Cabinet's assessment rose to 6.38, a 0.23-point increase from last year.
Five ministries receiving the highest scores include the Ministry of Education (7.33), the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (7.14 ), the Ministry of Public Health (7.02), the Ministry of Tourism and Sports (6.57) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (6.54).
Five most popular projects implemented by the government include a 15-year free education programme, state welfare for the elderly, underprivileged and persons with disabilities (PWDs), economic stimulus measures and solutions to informal debts, namely crop price guarantee and agriculture promotion and health services schemes.
However, the survey found that most respondents were dissatisfied with the government's performance in dealing with corruption, solving economic problems, rising costs of consumer products and high costs of living.
In addition, other issues dissatisfied by the public in 2010 were the meddling in judicial system, handling foreign policy with Cambodia over Preah Vihear-related border problems and a pay hike for lawmakers of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as provincial administrative officials.(TNA)
