Thailand to develop new-age farmers and rice strains

BANGKOK, Dec 23(TNA) - Thailand is developing new rice strains and new-age farmers to sustain the Kingdom's status as the world's largest rice producer and exporter.
The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives' Rice Department has signed an agreement with the Thai Rice Foundation under the Royal Patronage on the extension to five years of their cooperation to achieve the national goals covering full-circled joint research on new high quality rice strains and development of new generation farmers with their improved living conditions and secured world-class rice farming professionals--through collective mechanisms.
Dr. Sumet Tantivejakul, President of the Thai Rice Foundation under the Royal Patronage, suggested on Wednesday (Dec 22) that other relevant Thai public and private agencies should also join forces to introduce new processed Thai rice products and new rice strains to not only guarantee promising returns to Thai rice farmers in the long run, but also achieve the ultimate two-prong national goals and meet rising global demand for grains.(TNA)
