Thai Deputy PM unsure on the month of next general elections
BANGKOK,Dec12(TNA)- Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban has expressed uncertainty on the exact month of the next general elections, citing that discussions must be made with the coalition government before dissolving the Lower House.
The deputy prime minister’s remarks responded to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s comment on holding general elections in March or April of next year.
Suthep reiterated that the move by the government will be in accordance with the Premier's policy, even if it means that the current government will not be finishing its tenure.
The Democrat-led government's term expires on December 2011.
When asked about the opinions of the coalition parties, Suthep said that differences in opinions are normal and the government will follow up on the matter based on the overall situation. If there are prospects of dissolving the Lower House, then a discussion will have to be made with related parties, under the authority of the Prime Minister.
Regarding the jarring public opinion on the Constitutional Court's dismissal of the dissolution case against the ruling Democrat Party that will foster conflict, Suthep, who serves as the party’s secretary-general, affirmed that he has faith in the justice system and believes that the matter will not instigate any conflict, even though there are certain groups of people posses the intention to do so.
Suthep also expressed hope that the country will be in rest following the revocation of emergency decree, when it is replaced by the softer measures under the Internal Security Act.(TNA)
