EVN, PVN asked to minimise power cuts

Hanoi (VNA) - Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang has instructed
the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to mobilise full operations of hydro and
thermo power plants, even diesel FO-run thermo turbine groups, at peak hours
to minimise power cuts.

The minister also asked EVN to limit the maintenance of electric turbine
units as well as fulfill electricity equipment repairs at the earliest time
to ensure power supply.

The EVN, meanwhile is responsible for reporting to the Ministry of
Industry and Trade the ongoing power supply situation, power moderation and
power cuts and reconciliation every Friday, along with its plan for the next
week.

The minister also requested PetroVietnam (PVN) ensure gas supply for
electric generation of the 750MW Ca Mau 1 power plant as well as the
trial-run of the 750MW Ca Mau 2 since early August.

PVN was asked to increase Nam Con Son gas supply capacity to 20 million
cu.m per day prior to August 15 for operating Phu My, Nhon Trach and Ba Ria
power plants .

PVN and EVN will work together to mobilise test-run power plants to fully
supply electricity, especially at peak hours.

According to EVN, the country's maximal electricity consumption was
estimated to increase to 12,000-12,500 MW per day, while the EVN's
electricity system could supply just 11,000 MW. As a result, the country has
been running short by between 1,000 and 1,500 MW during peak hours.-Enditem
