Vientiane province to transform Nam Ngum Dam to tourist destination

VIENTIANE,8.NOV(KPL) - The Vientiane Provincial Administration held a meeting on the development of the front area of the Nam Ngum 1 Dam head into a tourist hub.
Held in the province last Friday under the chairmanship of Governor of Vientiane Province Mr. Khammeung Phongthady, the meeting was attended by chiefs of districts and relevant officials.
“Once approved the area will be developed into a tourist destination and its initial works would be the construction of embankment, road improvement and construction, land clearance for the resettlement of local people, power grid installation and water supply construction,” said Director of the Tourism Service of Vientiane Province Mr. Outhong Phanthavong.
The tourist destination will include hotel, resort, tourist facilities and trade exhibition centre where products of local residents will be on display and for sale, and waste water treatment reservoir construction, according to Mr. Outhong. Amusement activities will include boat riding, mountain biking, trekking, and fishing, among others, according to Mr. Outhong.
He said that the top priority to the developer is the resettlement of people living in the area.
