King Anouvong statue to be installed this Sunday
VIENTIANE,NOV.02 (KPL) - The Subcommittee for the Casting of King Anouvong Statue, Ministry of Information and Culture, has said that King Anouvong Statue would be installed at his name park on the Mekong bank on Sunday, Nov 7.
More than 1,000 local residents are expected to take part in a procession for the statue which stands gesturing towards the Mekong River.
The procession will feature series of performing arts portraying traditional festivals of the Lao people such as boat racing festival, Lao New Year festival and rocket festival.
Fine Arts Department Director Bounthieng Siripaphanh said last Friday that all casting work for King Anouvong statue had been conducted by Lao craftsmen and almost 13 tonnes of copper had been used for the casting.
“Delegates from many countries appreciate that the statue is neatly sculptured and looks powerful,” said Mr. Bounthieng.
The Sub-committee on the Casting of King Anouvong Statue, Ministry of Information and Culture, on 29 October held here a meeting on preparation for the installation of King Anouvong statue.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of Information and Culture Bouangeun Saphouvong and was attended by relevant officials.
