BANGKOK, Oct 24 – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva appointed PM's Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtoey as a chairman of a committee to help flood victims as he was due to visit flood-stricken Aytthaya and Pathum Thani Sunday afternoon.
The committee will work with agencies concerned in rehabilitation work to restore infrastructure and to assess implementation of assistance measures in order to report to the Prime Minister. Former Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin was appointed as the deputy chairman of the committee.
Meanwhile, Mr Abhisit also appointed Mr Apirak, his advisor, to chair the flood coordination centre to integrate overlapping agency duties to work in harmony and to receive complaints from flood victims.

Meanwhile, the flood continued unabated but Buddhists came out to make merit at temple at the end of Buddhist Lent.
In Uthaithani, flood hit several areas in the provincial seat after release of water from the Wangromkhlao Dam into the Kaewtakdad River. Local residents built sand embankments to prevent flooding of their paddy fields which will soon be ready for harvest soon.
In Angthong, the water level in the Chao Phraya River and the Noi River are increasing continuously, overflowing its banks and inundating houses in the provincial seat, Pa Mok district and Wiset Chai Chan district. Flooding is as high as two metres in some areas. The police station in Bangjak sub-district has been under water. Some motorcycles seized were left under water.
In Prachinburi, villagers went to give alms at Samphan temple which has been flooded. Monks from many flooded temples moved to receive alms on the roads. In Srakesa Rajavaramahavihara in Bangkok, monks received morning alms to be sent to 16 flood-hit temples in Nakhon Sawan.
According to Thailand's Emergency Medical Institute, flood death toll rises to 34 in 13 provinces from October 10-24. (MCOT online news)
