Vietnam to import fertiliser till 2020
Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam will have to import more than 500,000 tonnes of fertilisers of various kinds annually from now to 2010 and may only stop the import by 2020, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has said.
Addressing a seminar that sought measures to increase the efficient use of fertilisers and reduce production cost, Nguyen Tri Ngoc from the MARD's Cultivation Department said the country's imports of fertilisers andpesticides reached about 1.3 billion USD in the past seven months.
The agriculture sector is boosting research and application of advanced fertiliser production technologies while encouraging farmers to usebio-fertilisers to reduce production cost, Ngoc said.
At present, local fertiliser producers can supply only half of the country's demand, which requires between 7.5-8 million tonnes of various kinds annually.-Enditem
