CHINESE WORKERS RECEIVE MOST TURKISH WORK PERMITS

ANKARA (A.A) - 24.09.2010 - After an influx of Chinese goods recently, Turkey is now going through an influx of Chinese labor.
In 2009, one-fifth of all work permits issued by the Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security went to Chinese workers.
Sources told the AA that, while thousands of Turks work overseas, the number of foreign workers working "legally" in Turkey was constantly increasing.
The number of work permits granted by the Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security in 2009 increased 31 percent when compared to the previous year.
In 2008, the Ministry granted work permits to 10,705 foreign workers. In 2009, this figure jumped to 14,023.
Most of the work permits expire after a certain time period. In 2009, the work permits of 4,693 foreign workers were extended.
18.35 percent of all work permits issued last year in Turkey went to Chinese nationals.
The Russians were the second largest group of workers receiving work permit from the Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security in 2009. Out of all work permits issued in 2009, 11.16 percent went to Russian naitonals.
