Al-Hawshabi calls Arab efforts to develop genetic resources

SANA'A, July 28 (Saba)- Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mansour al-Hawshabi has called to enhance the Arab efforts to develop the genetic resources in the Arab region and protect them fromextinction.

He made reference, in a speech during the opening session on Sunday of a workshop on the role of environment organizing work in protecting the genetic resources, that many genetic resources in the Arab world are exposed to deterioration due to urban sprawl.

He affirmed the importance of sharing the society in setting up the plans andprograms to contribute to protecting the environment.

Al-Hawshabi mentioned the important role of media and guidance on awareness process, highlighting the importance of the workshop in providing the participantswith knowledge.

For his part, the regional official of Natural Resources Program Ahmed Ghusn briefed that the Arab world has a big wealth of biodiversity and natural resources that needmore care and protection.

The representative of Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) Khalil Abu-Afifa talked over the importance of the workshop that aims at enhancing the Arab effortsto protect the genetic resources.

The three-day workshop organized by Arab AOAD discusses issues concerningbiodiversity and genetic resources in the Arab world.
