Campaign to combat terrorism financing launched in Yemen

SANA'A, Aug. 18 (Saba)- An awareness campaign to combat money laundering and terrorism financing was launched on Wednesday
in a number of banks and financial institutions in Yemen.

The few-week campaign is run by the non-government Studies and Economic Media
Center (SEMC).
In press release, the SEMC said that its team has paid field visits to a number of
banks and exchange shops to distribute brochures includes new information on ways
of monitoring
the activities of money laundering and terrorism financing as well as measures of
accountants and audits works for improving transparency of the exchange system in
the country.
Meanwhile, the SEMC is currently preparing, in cooperation with Middle East
Partnership Initiative (MEPI), to train staff of financial units in the banks and
public and
private financial institutions working in Yemen, calling on the Yemeni banks and
exchange institutions to establish efficient anti-money laundering and terrorism
finance
units.
In July, the SEMC held discussions with members of the Yemeni Parliament to
activate the anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing law.
