DSI submits Red Shirt terrorism-related cases to prosecutors

BANGKOK, July 29 – Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on Thursday submitted terrorism-related cases involving the first batch of 25 suspects including ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra to prosecutors.

The DSI chief Tharit Pengdit and investigators presented more than 60 files supporting the case involving 25 suspects including Mr Thaksin and Red Shirt leaders and guards including Veera Musikapong, Nattawut Saikua, Jatuporn Prompan, and Weng Tojirakarn.

The terrorism case, submitted to the prosecutors on Thursday, is related to their alleged roles in inciting protesters and Red Shirt movements in the capital and other provinces leading to violence and damage to government buildings, department stores, and the loss of military weaponry worth several billion baht.

Deceased army specialist general Khattiya Sawasdipolwas was deleted.

Waiyawuth Lohtrakul, deputy chief of the Attorney General's office, said a special committee will review the document before taking the final decision in the next 12 days when the temporary detention period of the detained Red Shirts is due to expire.

If there is insufficient evidence, the case will be returned to investigators. The detainees will be released when their detention period ends, he said.

They will be summoned later if the case is accepted by the court for indictment. (MCOT online news)
