Police Investigating Saudi Suspect in Shabwa Patrol Attack

SHABWA, July 25 (Saba) -
Police are investigating Ahmed Saleh Hedeij Al-Hamami, a Saudi, whose car, according
to
the Interior Ministry, was used by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula AQAP in the
attack against a security patrol in Shabwa Province that killed six soldiers.
Al-Hamami surrendered on Saturday, the day the ministry revealed it had blacklisted
him and circulated his car in connection with the attack that killed six soldiers
early
Thursday morning in Ataq city.
Saudi ambassador to Yemen Ali Al-Hamdan was quoted by the News Yemen as saying that
Al-Hamami called officials at the Saudi embassy in Sana'a telling them he was at a
Shabwa
hotel and he had nothing to do with the attack.
The envoy also said the numbers of the car of Al-Hamami and the car the ministry
said was used in the attack were not the same.
Al-Hamami was ordered to give himself in to the authorities, he added.
Muhsen Al-Hamami, a brother of the suspect, said that one of the relatives of his
brother's wife told him Saturday night they had got a statement from the hotel
management
his brother did not leave the hotel and his car was inside the hotel park when the
attack happened.
Yesterday, the Interior Ministry said a Saudi pickup, which entered the country 17
days ago through the Al-Wadiah crossing, had been used to carry out the attack
against
the security patrol in Shabwa.
It said it circulated the car and blacklisted its owner identified as Ahmed Saleh
Hedeij Al-Hamami.
