Ex-N. Korea Agent Met Abductee Yokota Only Once

Karuizawa, Nagano Pref., July 22 (Jiji Press)--Former North Korean
agent Kim Hyon Hui has said she met with Megumi Yokota, a Japanese abducted
to the reclusive country in 1977 at the age of 13, only once, the parents of
the victim said Thursday.
Yokota's father Shigeru, 77, and mother Sakie, 74, also said Kim
did not provide fresh information, including when and where she met with
their daughter.
The parents made the remarks at a press conference held here after
they met with Kim Wednesday night.
The parents said Kim explained that she was asked to meet with
Megumi when another North Korean agent who was learning Japanese from Megumi
was planning to meet the Japanese victim.
Kim also told the parents that Megumi appears to be quiet and
modest.
Sakie said at the press conference that she heard nothing new
during the meeting with Kim that lasted for almost four hours.
Kim, who arrived in Japan on Tuesday, plans to meet with families
of abduction victims at a hotel in Tokyo Thursday afternoon before returning
to South Korea Friday.
Kim was sentenced to death in South Korea in 1989 for the bombing
of a Korean Air flight in 1987, but was granted a special pardon later.
