Saudi Arabia participates in Arab Housing Ministers meeting in

Cairo, July 22 , SPA -- The Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction held this morning in Cairo a special session under chairmanship of the Kingdom of Bahrain to discuss the files of projects to be presented at the two-day Arab Economic DevelopmentSummit, scheduled to start its deliberations on January 20, 2009.

The delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the meeting is headed by the Governor of the National Housing Authority, Dr. Shweshbin Saud al-Dhwahi Al-Mutairi.

In his opening address, Sheikh Ibrahim bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Bahraini Minister of Housing, the current president of the council reiterated the importance given to this special session that would be strengthened further in the light of the files and important projectsthat are in the agenda of the next economic summit in Kuwait.

He also spoke on the results of expert meetings and the Executive Office of the Ministerial Council, which contributed to crystallization of these files and projects that will be furtherstudied and approved later today.

For his part, Arab League's Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Tuweijiri in a speech said that the files and projects to be covered by the special session is to support and develop the partnership between public and private sectors to provide low-cost community housing and a project to curbnon-organized housing and slums as well develop the existing ones.

He added that the projects also include activating the Arab Centre Convention for the prevention of the dangers of earthquakes and other natural disasters; the draft of investment promotion and protection of Arab real estate; the draft programme of the Arab unified codes for construction as tools for the liberalization of trade in construction services, the concerned engineering services and theproject of supporting Housing sector in Palestine.
