Thailand collects higher-than-expected revenue in June

BANGKOK, July 15 – The government in June reaped net revenue of Bt108.96 billion, which is more than Bt26 billion or 32.4 per cent higher than projected thanks to steady economic growth, Fiscal Policy Office Director-General Sathit Rangkasiri said Thursday.

Taxes collected from consumers and exports were much higher than projected.

Major taxes which were collected in more volume than expected are the value added tax (VAT), fuel tax, vehicular taxes and import duty. Vehicle taxes reached a record high of Bt7.1 billion.

Special revenues of Bt8.1 billion was earned from refunds and interest of the Government Pension Fund.

In the first nine months of the Fiscal 2010 budget (October 2009-June 2010), the government earned net revenue of Bt1.24 trillion, an increase of 24.8 per cent or Bt246.2 billion.

The increase was caused by higher taxes collected by the Excise Department, the Revenue Department and the Customs Department as well as revenue from the seizure of ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra’s assets of Bt49 billion.

“The Finance Ministry is confident that the government’s revenue in Fiscal 2010 will be at least Bt280 billion higher than projected thanks to the higher-than-targeted government revenue in the first nine months of Fiscal 2010 and steady economic growth”, Mr Sathit said. (MCOT online news)
