All major airports in Beijing and six co-host cities have ramped up security for Olympics to which terror has beenidentified as the biggest threat.

With the Games less than three weeks away, China hasstepped up anti-terror drive.

A headquarter has been set up to oversee the implementation of the two-month long mechanism that became operational at the Civil Aviation Administration of China inBeijing Sunday, official Xinhua news agency said.

The bureaus would respond quickly to situations such as terror attacks, hijack of civil aircraft and unauthorisedentry of no-fly zone by aircraft.

The official said they have prepared emergency response plans to deal with "abnormal situations" that could affect thesafety of civil aviation.

China recently renewed its pledge to host a safeOlympics.

As the Games nears, Beijing has under come thick security blanket with authorities launching three "defence lines" surrounding the Chinese capital to beef up security checks onpersons and vehicles entering the city.

National-level anti-terror drills have been held in Beijing and co-host cities – Shanghai, Tianjin, Qinhuangdao,Shenyang and Qingdao.

China said recently that it had smashed during the last six months this year five terror groups in Muslim-populated restive northwest Xinjiang region and detained 82 suspectedterrorists who had targeted Beijing Olympics.
