U.S. Under Secretary of State concludes Pakistan visit

Islamabad, July 21 PPI: Visiting United States Under Secretary of State for Economic, Energy & Agricultural Affairs, Reuben Jeffery discussed with Pakistani officials importance of sound economic policies that address challenges of rising food, fuel prices and support a stable, democratic and prosperous Pakistan.

He was speaking on conclusion of his three-day visit here Saturday which was to discuss economic issues in context of Pak-US relations ahead of Prime MinisterYousuf Raza Gilani's upcoming visit to U.S.

Jeffery met with Gilani, senior officials, private sector leaders and discussed how to promote poverty reduction, private sector development, vocational training, agriculture, education, access to credit and how to promote new investment inPakistan particularly in energy and infrastructure sectors.

He stressed great value that U.S. places on its long-term and wide ranging strategic partnership with Pakistan. He updated officials and private sector on Reconstruction Opportunity Zone legislation that is now before U.S. Congress. The legislation aims to promote economic growth in Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas FATA and North West Frontier Province by allowing companies that set up manufacturingoperations to export their products duty-free into the U.S.
