PRESIDENT OPENS NATIONAL COORDINATING MEETING ON WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT
July 17 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono opened a national coordination meeting on women's empowerment and children's protection at the State Palace here on Thursday.
The national coordination meeting which was attended by about 300 representatives from government institutions, carried the theme "Women Arise, Indonesia is Able."
It was focused on strengthening the institutional and mainstreaming capacity of gender and children in all areas of development.
Women'S Empowerment Minister Meutia Hatta Swasono said the theme was intended to motivate and encourage Indonesian women to rise and cultivate their potentials so that they could make positive and meaningful contributions to the state's and nation's development.
"Women should be given equal access to and opportunities in development as men," she said.
Meutia said the national working meeting was expected to formulate steps for increasing the capacity of women's institutions and the implementation of gander and children mainstreaming in all stages of development.
Coinciding with 100 years of national awakening day and 100 years of Indonesia's women's awakening, the office of the minister for women's empowerment provided awards for prominent figures and regions who had dedication and high commitment to women's empowerment and children's protection.
