Analyst: Keeping Tehran Declaration alive, intelligent move by Iran

Ankara, June 17, IRNA – A Turkish analyst described Iran’s moves to keep the Tehran Declaration alive after the issuing of the United Nations resolution as a wise and intelligent decision.

Sami Kohen, a columnist for Milliyet newspaper who specializes on foreign policy issues, further noted that Iran’s policy blocked the way for sanctions to become effective in simple ways and in no time.

He said the self-restraint practiced by Iran after the United Nations resolution and its well-calculated policy to keep doors for dialogue with the West open indicate that chances for finding a peaceful solution for Iran’s nuclear issue are not over yet.

He wrote that the policy also created the hope that conducting of talks within the framework of the tri-lateral declaration in a way hindered implementation of the UNSC resolution.

The journalist said that had Iran officially annulled the Tehran Declaration following the UNSC resolution, it would have meant that it would never sit for negotiations while the smart remarks by Iranian officials so far show that Iranians have no intention to block all ways.

He believed the same approach was adopted by the West as well since the Western countries too have kept the door open for negotiations./end
