Mehman-parast: West’s carrot and stick policy, of no use
Tehran, June 15, IRNA – Spokesman for Iranian Foreign Ministry Ramin Mehman-parast said West’s policy of carrot and stick will be of no use at all because it is not in standing with the dignity of Iranian nation.
Making the remark during his weekly press briefing, he termed as incorrect West’s double-standard approaches, saying that the requests of western countries could be taken into consideration within the framework of regional dialogues provided that the approaches of such countries were proven to be logical.
He stressed that conducting peaceful nuclear activities were one of the basic rights of the Iranian nation. He also said those who deny the commited members of NPT the right to gain fuel cycle or carry out peaceful nuclear activities, should know that they have adopted a wrong approach because resorting to pressure will have no results for them.
Answering a question, he dismissed false reports regarding a parliament member who had quoted Foreign Ministry officials as reportedly saying that the position taken by Russia and China towards Iran was out of their friendly concerns for Iran.
He stressed that the act of all those countries who have voted in favor of the resolution has been against the interests of the Iranian nation.
He said that the attitudes and actions of countries regarding Iran will be undoubtedly taken into consideration by Iran and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki will write letters to all members of the UNSC to protest to their irrational votes.
Asked to comment on Resolution 1929, he described it as a hasty move, saying that the Iranian nation was only after fulfilling its inalienable rights to peaceful nuclear activities.
He said Iran was neither seeking anything beyond its basic rights nor was willing to allow its rights to be restricted.
He further voiced Iran’s readiness to help calm down tensions in Kyrgyzstan because the Kyrgyz nation was being harmed and stressed that Iran favored stability in the regional countries.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman pointed to the final agreement on the Peace Pipeline with Pakistan as an answer to the illegal and irrational move of the UNSC in issuing a resolution against Iran./end
