TURKEY IS AGAINST NUCLEAR WEAPONS, ERDOGAN SAYS

TEHRAN (A.A) - 17.05.2010 - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that Turkey was against nuclear weapons.
Speaking at a trilateral summit with Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for an agreement on a nuclear fuel swap in Tehran, Erdogan said that the whole Middle East must be cleaned off nuclear weapons.
However, it is every country's right to utilize nuclear energy for civilian purposes, Erdogan said.
Iran has agreed to ship uranium to Turkey and I thank Iran for this decision, Erdogan said.
The step taken by Iran is "an opportunity". This has to do with having confidence. Turkey and Brazil will do what they have to do based on the confidence that Iran has in these two countries, Erdogan said.
The implementation of the agreement is dependent on arrangements between Iran, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN Security Council and Germany, Erdogan said.
This agreement will facilitate a permanent compromise between Iran and the international community on nuclear issue, Erdogan said.
As part of the agreement, Turkey will take into custody the uranium from Iran. Iranian uranium will be in safe hands in Turkey. This agreement will open the way for Iran and the Iranian people, Erdogan said.
I hope that the agrement would serve global peace, Erdogan also said.
