TURKEY'S CHIEF NEGOTIATOR SAYS TURKEY CHANGING

ANKARA (A.A) - 10.05.2010 - Turkey's chief negotiator said on Sunday that Turkey had been changing and it would keep changing.
A reception took place in the Turkish capital of Ankara to mark "Europe Day". State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks Egemen Bagis, Head of the EU Delegation in Turkey Marc Pierini, Ankara Mayor Melih Gokcek and ambassadors of EU member states attended the reception.
Delivering a speech at the reception, Bagis said Turkish nation would have the European Union full membership standards.
Pierini said EU had become a social, economic and political power.
A complex negotiation process has taken place between Turkey and EU for the last four and a half years and EU assumed the role of guide for Turkey in the accession process, Pierini said. Compromise and mutual respect constituted the basis of this process, he said.
Europe Day is an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe. There are two separate designations of Europe Day: May 5 for the Council of Europe, and May 9 for the European Union (EU). For the EU, the day is also known as Schuman Day, commemorating the historical declaration by French foreign minister Robert Schuman.
May 9 is celebrated in various forms in most member states of the European Union and surrounding countries in Turkey.
