President receives new foreign ambassadors
VIENTIANE, 05 MAY (KPL) - President Choummaly Sayasone yesterday received the credentials presented by foreign ambassadors who have been accredited to do their diplomatic missions in Laos.
The ambassadors were Dr. Jitendra Nath Misra of India, Mr. Stale Torstien Risa of Norway, Mr. Markiian Chuchuk of Ukraine, and Mr. Shahid M G Kiani of Pakistan.
President Choummaly highly valued their appointment and said that their diplomatic mission would contribute to the relations and cooperation between Laos and the respective countries.
The cooperation between Laos and its international friendly countries have cooperated on various areas such as politics, trade and investment, health, education, tourism, culture, agriculture, communication, energy, mining, science, technology and national defence.
Laos and India established their diplomatic relation on February 2, 1956 and the Laos-India Friendship Association on October 12, 1996, the day to celebrate the Independent Day of the Lao PDR.
In 1997, Laos and India established the Lao-Indian Joint Commissions. Both sides held their 6th Meeting early this year in New Delhi, India, to review the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Lao PDR was Coordinator for ASEAN + India from 2003-2005 during which Laos played a pivotal and very supportive role in coordinating and strengthening India’s relations with ASEAN.
Laos established diplomatic relations with Pakistan on 15 July in 1965. Its diplomatic ties with Norway was established on November 12, 1991 and Ukraine on September17, 1992.
