APPEAL OF HEADS OF THE STATE-PARTICIPANTS OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF INDEPENDENT STATES TO THE PEOPLES OF THE STATE-PARTICIPANTS OF COMMONWEALTH AND WORLD COMMUNITY IN CONNECTION WITH 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF
The peoples of the Commonwealth of Independent States are going to mark on May 9, 2010 the 65th anniversary of victory of the soviet people in the Great Patriotic War in 1941-1945. The multinational Soviet Union and its Armed Forces defended freedom and independence of their Fatherland and saved many countries from the fascist enslavement.
The victory could have been impossible if our peoples had not showed selfless commitment and mass heroism, patriotism and internationalism, unprecedented steadfastness at battlefields and home front. The history never knew such firmness. It did not know such a will to the victory as well.
As the years went by the greatness of the feat accomplished by our peoples does not fade away. The more time separates us from that milestone, the more clearly we can realize significance of the historical mission of the soldiers of the Victory who defended the right to the future. Therefore, addressing the peoples of the Commonwealth member states and world community, today, we say “thank you” to the veterans currently living in our states. We call for paying tribute to heroes-winners not just in words but in deeds, showing everyday care for participants of war and workers on the home front, paying deference and creating decent living conditions to them.
The 9th of May – the Victory Day – remains for our people as the day of celebration of justice, pride and national grief on millions victims lost in this severe and terrible fight. Sacred and dear are the names of those who fell bravely in days of the Great Patriotic War. With irredeemable debt we remember those, who, sacrificing themselves, have defended Fatherland, and so – our freedom. We will not forget heroism of soldiers and the laborers of the home front who saved the world from fascism. Therefore, we urge to hold sacred memory of victims for freedom and independence of the Motherland, to show constant care of preservation and maintenance in proper condition the military burial places, memorial complexes, monuments and obelisks, and also tombs erected to the guerrilla, underground fighters and prisoners of the fascist camps; to make active search of remains of the soldiers and the peaceful citizens who fell in days of the Great Patriotic War in the hands of fascist occupants.
We share this victory and always pay tribute to the courage of those who resisted to Nazism. We remember the contribution of our allies on the Anti-Hitler coalition in the Victory, their help to us. However, the most scaled and the main events occurred on the Soviet-German front. Our countries have lost in the war years ten millions citizens. Among the victims on fields of battles there were people of all nationalities.
Considering that all people of our states have made decisive contribution to the achievement of Victory, we urge to impart in the rising generation a pride for the general heroic history and great feat in struggle against fascism.
Confirming the adherence to the universal principles and norms of international law, positions of the Charter of the United Nations and the Helsinki Final Act, we call for active interaction in strengthening of security and stability in the world, to escalating of efforts in struggle against the international terrorism and extremism, to peaceful political settlement of the existing conflicts and prevention of possible confrontations.
