WCS helps protect crocodiles in Savannakhet
VIENTIANE,4 MAY (KPL) - The Wildlife Control Supplies (WCS) and the Agriculture and Forestry Service of Savannakhet province have committed to implementing the Crocodiles Protection and People’s Living Condition Improvement Project. The project is worth 2.7 billion kip (US$327,270).
Both sides signed an agreement on the project last week in Savannakhet province.
The signatories to the document were Michael Hedemark, Head of Wildlife Conservation Society’s Laos programs, and Mr. Vilaysouk Khennavong, Head of the Agriculture and Forestry Service of Savannakhet.
Deputy Head of the Agriculture and Forestry Service of Savannakhet, Mr. Kamphay Manyvong, and relevant officials of both sides witnessed the signing.
The three-year project will be implemented in nine villages in three districts including Saybouly, Champhone and Songkhone.
Its activities include a study on gene of crocodiles, crocodile nursery, public awareness on crocodiles protection, the improvement of ecosystem of crocodiles habitats, crocodiles population document and the digging and construction of fishponds and irrigation systems for local people.
