‘INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY BEARS LEGAL AND MORAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESTORATION OF AZERBAIJAN`s TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY’

Baku, April 30 (AzerTAc). “The International community bears legal and moral responsibility for restoration of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and the return of more than one million Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homelands,” Azerbaijan`s ambassador to the United States Yashar Aliyev told a special event held as part of an annual conference of the American Jewish Committee (AJC).
The ambassador spoke about Armenia`s military aggression against Azerbaijan.
"Armenians seized around one fifth of Azerbaijan's territory, creating more than a million refugees and IDPs."
The Azeri diplomat also spoke of the level of ethnic and religious tolerance in Azerbaijan.
The ambassador said a large Jewish community "peacefully" lives in Azerbaijan and "we maintain close ties with them".
Aliyev also highlighted Azerbaijani-Israeli and Azerbaijani-US ties.
The ambassador spoke of his country`s support to US peace efforts in Afghanistan.
Addressing the event, AJC`s president Richard Sideman and executive director David Harris praised Azerbaijan`s "centuries-old traditions of tolerance", and “good” attitude towards representatives of different religions and peoples living in the country, including Jews.
Touching upon “friendly” relationship between Azerbaijan and Israel, the speakers emphasized the importance of Azerbaijan as "a strategic" partner for the United States and Israel.
