Iran-Syria economic co-op unsatisfactory: Minister

Damascus, April 28, IRNA – Minister of Housing and Urban Development and the Iranian head of Iran-Syria Joint Commission Ali Nikzad here on Tuesday regretted that the level of bilateral economic cooperation is unsatisfactory.

However, he told reporters that the two nations enjoy close political ties. Nikzad added that there are historical and cultural commonalties shared by the two countries.

He added that Tehran-Damascus trade exchanges stand at some dlrs 1.6 billion, calling for increase in bilateral economic cooperation.

Nikzad reiterated that Syrian regulations have caused problems for Iranian companies, adding that the issue will be discussed in the commission meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.

He further announced that Iran’s First Vice-President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi and Syrian Prime Minister Mohamed Naji Otri will attend the meeting./end
