Foreign pressures not affecting Brazil’s will to support Iran

Tehran, April 27, IRNA – Visiting Foreign Minister of Brazil Celso Amorim said Monday that foreign pressures will have no effect on Brasilia’s will to support Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

He referred to Brazil as “an independent country not influenced by any foreign element.”

Speaking to IRNA, Amorim said the Zionist regime and its nuclear arsenal were major problems of the Middle East region along with the military presence of the US and its allies in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Touching upon the issue of sanctions against Iran for its peaceful nuclear activities, the Brazilian minister said increasing sanctions would lead to “no positive result” and would instead put in trouble ordinary people, low-income families in particular.

Amorim stressed that all nations, including Iran, have the right to make peaceful use of the nuclear energy.

Amorim arrived in Tehran Monday morning on a two-day visit to prepare the ground for the upcoming trip of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to Iran which is to take place on May 15-17./end
