FIRST MEETING OF CONSULTATIVE GROUP OF RELIGIOUS FIGURES AT UNESCO CONVENES IN BAKU

Baku, April 27 (AzerTAc). First meeting of the Consultative Group of Religious Figures at UNESCO was held at the Gulistan Palace of Azerbaijani capital.
Attending the meeting was Head of the Caucasian Muslims` Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the Catholicos of all Armenians Garegin II, religious leaders of other countries, as well as UNESCO regional representative Dendev Badarch.
Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill noted that the role of religious communities in the activity of international organizations is one of the pressing questions. Patriarch Kirill underlined the importance of special group for persistent work of the religious communities with the international organizations.
Also was noted that Mr. Koichiro Matsuura, Ex-Director-General of UNESCO has made huge efforts on creation of the mentioned structure - the Consultative Group of Religious Figures. On the initiative of UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, a panel of peace and dialogue of cultures has been set up at UNESCO. This institute can become a bright opportunity for cooperation of the Consultative Group of Religious Figures with UNESCO.
