WORLD YOUTH BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP KICKS OFF IN BAKU

Baku, April 26 (AzerTAc). The world youth boxing championship started Sunday here, drawing 500 athletes from 96 countries.
The championship is the only qualification tournament for the 2010 Singapore Youth Summer Olympics.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said “Azerbaijan has made great achievements in all fields, including sports”. The Minister praised national leader Heydar Aliyev`s role in development of sports in the country.
President of International Boxing Association (AIBA) Ching-Kuo Wu thanked the Azerbaijani Boxing Federation for “high level organization”.
President of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation Kamaladdin Heydarov stressed “hosting such international tournaments has already become a tradition in Azerbaijan. Our sportsmen have made outstanding achievements in international tournaments, including in the Olympic Games.”
“The development of sports in Azerbaijan is linked with the name of national leader Heydar Aliyev. Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev is successfully continuing this course,” Heydarov underlined.
