Iran condemns France's interference in internal affairs

Tehran, April 22, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman here Wednesday evening rejected as worthless the French Foreign Ministry's communiqué on Iran as “interference in our internal affairs.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Information and Media Head Office, Ramin Mehmanparast asked the French Government to end observing double standards inside and outside France.

He added, “The French officials permit themselves to opine about the internal affairs of other countries under such conditions that ignoring the logical demands of the French nation keeps going on and on.”

He further reiterated, “In France the rights of the Muslims are easily ignored, as they are not free to observe their religious duties, such as wearing the Islamic Hijab in accordance with their beliefs.”

The Foreign Ministry spokesman meanwhile referred to the January 2010 social unrests in France that were suppressed by the government harshly as a sign for President Sarkozy government’s ignoring of the serious demands of the French society, which surmounts every now and then in form of massive protests.

Mehmanparast added, “Rather than seeking escape goats regarding freedom and observation of the human rights in other countries, the French government had better seek root solutions to the social and cultural problems in France.”

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said on Tuesday he hopes UN would impose new sanctions against Iran after French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on the same day he wanted the United Nations to impose fresh sanctions no later than May.

"Will it happen before the end of the month? We all hope so, but it's not certain," Kouchner said on the radio station Europe 1, after he and Sarkozy returned from a 47-nation nuclear security summit in Washington.

Meanwhile, delegations from 35 countries attended a Tehran conference on nuclear disarmament, attended by 300 guests, nuclear scientists and journalists, confirming Iran’s right to have full cycle of the nuclear energy cycle for peaceful purposes.

The conference was held on April 17-18.

Over 60 countries had announced readiness will take part, but due to cancellation of entire flights from the West over two dozen delegations failed to reach the gathering./end
