BAKU HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON UPCOMING PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION

Baku, April 17 (AzerTAc). An international conference “2010 parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan: more democratic, more transparent” organized by the Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan (ACSDA) and French “Eurasia – New Horizons” NGO took place here on Friday.
The event was attended by Presidential Administration officials, MPs, members of the Europarliament, Council of Europe and OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, experts of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights as well as heads of political parties, representatives of NGOs and media.
The focus of discussions was the organization of upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.
ACSDA Vice-President Alibeyov noted Azerbaijan had conducted many elections since regaining its independence. According to him, Azerbaijan achieves certain progress with every election.
President of the “Eurasia-New Horizons” Thierry Mariani expressed assurance discussions held would be fruitful. He emphasized Azerbaijan made headway in organizing and conducting elections.
Addressing the conference, head of the Presidential Administration`s department for socio-political affairs Ali Hasanov briefed the participants on the political processes, and country`s experience in organization of elections, geopolitical position of Azerbaijan.
Hasanov emphasized the Azerbaijani society is ready to conduct elections in line with world standards.
The meeting ended with adoption of the resolution.
