SPEAKER OF AZERBAIJAN PARLIAMENT MEETS PACE PRESIDENT

Baku, April 15 (AzerTAc). Visiting President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mevlut Cavusoglu today met here with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament) of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov.

After Azerbaijan gained state sovereignty the country attaches special importance to integration into Europe and closely cooperates with the international structures, including the Council of Europe, the Speaker noted. “We believe the appointment of the Turkish national to such a high post will stimulate closer relations”, he stressed.

Informing on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Ogtay Asadov said the UN Security Council, the Council of Europe, the OSCE directly engaged in solution of the problem, have adopted significant resolutions on the question. Unfortunately, aggressive Armenia ignores the demand of world community and rejects to fulfill those decisions.

Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament expressed hope that also the Council of Europe would make decisive steps to find resolution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Expressing gratitude for congratulations on his appointment as PACE President, Mevlut Cavusoglu said Azerbaijan, as a Council of Europe member, attaches great importance on European values. The Council of Europe highly estimates this and will make necessary efforts to expand cooperation ties.

Mevlut Cavusoglu said he would try to eliminate the double-standards during his tenure as PACE President.

PACE President expressed hope for effective steps to solve the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
