PACE PRESIDENT MEETS AZERI MPs

Baku, 15 April (AzerTAc). President of PACE Mevlut Cavusoglu met Wednesday members of Azerbaijan`s parliamentary delegation to the Organization.
Head of the delegation Samad Seyidov said “we hope that under the presidency of a Turkish citizen, Azerbaijan`s rights in PACE will be better protected.
He also expressed hope that Turkey-Azerbaijan cooperation within PACE will enter a new stage.
Other members of the committee expressed hope that during his tenure Cavusoglu will spare no efforts to spreading European values, boosting cooperation, as well as implementing CoE-adopted documents on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Cavusoglu, in turn, thanked Azeri MPs for supporting his candidacy when he ran for the PACE presidency.
He said next month he would visit Armenia, Russia and Georgia to conduct discussions on democratization, human rights, as well as regional conflicts including one over Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to him, a sub-committee on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be established in PACE in the near future, adding relevant steps had already been started.
He underlined “we will continue our efforts to contribute to settling the conflict, and I, as a president of PACE, will discharge my duties.”
“I hope that we will achieve significant results in this direction,” Cavusoglu added.
He also pointed out the Council of Europe will help member countries carry out democratic reforms and integrate into Europe.
