AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT: ARMENIA HAS NOT FULFILLED UN SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTIONS
Baku, April 9 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev has reiterated his regret over the fact Armenia “still continues to refuse” resolutions by the UN Security Council concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The President gave a speech at the Estonian Foreign Ministry during his recent state visit to Tallinn.
“Twenty percent of Azerbaijan`s internationally recognized territories has been under Armenian occupation for twenty years. The consequences of this occupation have not yet been eliminated.”
The Azerbaijani leader said: “In early 1990s the United Nations Security Council adopted four resolutions demanding an immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan`s occupied lands. But, unfortunately, Armenia continues to refuse them, which means international legal norms do not work. It means that resolutions of the UN Security Council, a body which takes most crucial decisions on the international level, are not fulfilled.”
“And the aggressors, who violate the international norms and disrespect these resolutions, must be punished,” the President added.
However, the Azerbaijani leader said: “In some cases we see that aggressors not only remain unpunished, but, on the contrary, they are praised, they get concessions and they receive financial support.”
