AZERI OMBUDSPERSON ATTENDS 23RD SESSION OF INTERNATIONAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE

Baku, March 30 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijani ombudsperson Elmira Suleymanova attended the 23rd session of International Coordinating Committee (ICC) of National Human Rights Institutions.
Protection of women`s and childen`s rights, gender equality, combat with violence were the key issues of the agenda.
Mrs. Suleymanova briefed on ethnic purge of Azerbaijanis, expatriation of over 1 million refugees as a result of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and human rights violation.
She said the Ombudsman Office carried out numerous events in Azerbaijan as part of “Year of Child - 2009”.
The Office jointly with the State Committee on Family, Woman and Child Problems held events to fight against violence.
Azeri ombudsperson also met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay to discuss the issues of protection of human rights.
CDs about annual reports of ombudsperson, Khojaly Genocide and March 31 - the Genocide of Azerbaijanis were distributed among the session participants.
